  • TIVO Series 2 cable/sat only used with OTA

I have a Series 2 that I bought a couple years ago not realizing it was only for use with cable or satellite, NOT antenna. That was OK with me then because we only used it for OTA and I was able to trick the TIVO and we were able to get the VHF stations. Now with the digital transition that won't work anymore. I thought I could use the digital converter box like a cable box, but that doesn't work. Any ideas?

Why can't you use a digital converter box like a cable box? That's exactly how Series2 units will work with antenna broadcasts from now on.

You just need to redo Guided Setup once you have the converter box attached.
    Been here a long time . . .

In guided setup, there isn't a selection for converter box with antenna. There is only cable and satellite. When I try selecting cable with box, they only list cable boxes for IR control, nothing for converter boxes.

You may want to read my earlier thread here http://www.wkforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3018

...as I ran into a related problem, though not with a satellite capable Tivo. It's possible you simply don't have the software version that supports converter boxes. This page

has a place to enter your Tivo service number and find out how your Tivo will be affected by the digital transition. My series 2 Tivo does have a converter box option separate from the cable boxes, but you have to have the right software version. I've made a "feature request" to the Tivo customer service. You might want to do the same in your situation.
