  • Direct TV Hr10-250 and on screen image distortion

I use my OTA hookup for local programing and get beautiful HD reception. However when I go to Direct TV programing (HBO, Sports, cable) my wife asks "Is this the fat TV side", as I also have a series 3 with an OTA hookup. My question: Is the lack of mpeg 4 software capability of this unit responsible for the distortion or it something to do with the Samsung Flat Screen Plasma I have the unit hooked up to. The Hr 10 does not have a "Zoom" feature so I can't resolve this way as I can with the series 3 TIVO unit. I have tried all the picture screen options with the set (zoom 1 and zoom 2 are greyed out) without any good result. Any suggestions other than waithing for Direct TV to get off their rearends and release the new Direct TV TIVO unit they have been promising for the last 18 months.

You get no HD programming from satellite on that unit, so you are watching SD on an HD TV (hence your perceived distortion). You would need to get a new DIRECTV DVR to get DIRECTV's HD content.
