  • Series 2 - channel hops

connected via serial cable to a Time Warner supplied Motorola DCT2224.

When we try to switch channels using the TiVo remote or by scheduling a recording, the cable box sometimes doesn't settle on the desired channel - it just keeps going, climbing or descending until it ends up on some other channel. We can bypass the problem by using the cable remote, but we can't schedule TiVo recordings or reliably use the TiVo remote.

We tried swapping the TW box, but it was the same. We had a TW tech come out and he immediately blamed TiVo, not the hardware, but he said they had introduced a bug. He insisted that he's seen this cropping up and we would have to use an IR blaster to regain functionality.

I looked around and couldn't find anyone complaining about a widespread channel switching bug. Is the tech correct? Do we have to use an IR blaster (don't have one on hand to test with). Could our existing serial cable have gone bad? Something else?

BTW - We just had the Series 2 flat-fee repaired for other issues.

I haven't heard of the problem - but it does seem that serial cable compatibility is becoming more and more rare. Most likely, it's due to an update to the software in the cable box.

But either way, you probably just need to switch over to IR.
    Been here a long time . . .

      That did the trick, thanks!

We are having this same problem. Replace the TW box and now it's worse.
It was only climbing on certain channel requests, and now it's most all above channel 77. Any ideas?
        Thanks

BTW, TIVO sent us a new cable and a new IR, but neither one worked.

I'd suggest you repeat guided setup. It's possible that the TiVo is trying to change channels too fast (sending the numbers too fast), and by repeating setup, you can adjust the channel changing speed.
