  • Can TiVo Series 2 Use IR Blaster to Control Verizon FIOS STB?

I have Verizon FIOS cable TV service and a TiVo series 2 DVR, which does not support a CableCARD and accepts only the old fashioned RF input such as comes from an antenna that contains all the provided channels.

My question is can I get a Verzon STB or Basic Digital Adapter (basically a stripped down STB with no channel guide, on demand, etc.) and control it using the IR blaster on the Series 2?

For this to work the Series 2 must load a guide that has the proper channel numbers, and the IR blaster must know the proper IR codes to control the STB or adapter. Should this work? I hate to trash a perfectly good Tivo with lifetime channel guide.

    Thanks,
    Mike

By the way, we could also use Comcast (now also going to all digital) if it would work but Verizon wouldn't. Does that make a difference?

Sure - that should work. I thought that FiOS didn't really have basic STBs at this point, but if they do, the IR blaster should do the trick. Comcast would also work.
      Been here a long time . . .
