  • Testing Tivo drive by swapping, now it says it is not activated.

I was attempting to help a friend that had an identical Series 3 Tivo to mine. I suspected her HD was bad, but just to be sure I swapped the drives between her unit and mine. As I suspected her drive was bad, but after I returned my HD back to my system, I see a message when I go back to Live TV that says that I need to call Tivo or Go online to active my unit. But, if I try to activate it online I get a message that it is already activated. I tried calling Tivo, but they said since I had removed the HD, they could not help me, but they did recommend I try the forums here.

If I check my Tivo account, it show the unit is activated.

I see a lot of posts about running clear and delete everything when swapping drives, but in my case the original drive is back in the original Tivo. Is this required or is there another way to fix this?

It does sound like you need to clear everything:
