HR212 error message

While TIVO was on received a message to "Leave receiver on - Leave phone connected. If not restored within 3 hrs call (some number)". Have a HR212 without subscription. Was using it to record input from a camera. Opened the unit. Removed hard drive and it shows up on computer. Any clue as to what can be wrong? Can I reprogram it? If so where do I get a free program? with instructions.

That's pretty clearly a bad drive. You can use a replacement kit from here:
