R10 recording quality and USB Port?

From reading many of the other posts, I guess I'm less sophisticated than most users posting here.
I have just done a drive upgrade to my R10. Thank you weaKnees for the professionalism of your service and instructions.
I have two questions:
1. Following the upgrade, I'm seeing a significant number of "glitches" in the recording (pixelization, flashing horizontal bars, etc). Could this be the result of the new drive or is it just coincidence?
2. Is the USB port on this DVR of any use at all?

1a.) Pixellation is often a drive problem, but tht flashing horizontal bars sounds unfamiliar and scary. Why did you replace the original drive? Can you put it back in to test that unit? As for the new drive, you may want to contact us so we can discuss your options.

2a.) The USB port is, and remains, inactive

That's all there is to it!
