  • Is ASL-1 needed

I was looking at a training manual for installing the SWM LNB antenna. In it they say that you need an ASL-1 (antenna signal locator) to ensure that the 101 and 119 satellites are located and peaked for maximum strength. Is this device needed regardless of which method (SWM LNB or SWM-8) is used?

The aiming of the dish really isn't different at all for either of those SWM types (or for a non-SWM installation of a 5LNB dish). So if you have some other way to aim and verify a dish, that's fine.
    Been here a long time . . .

The only other way would be with my receiver. I guess I could do that, but I do have an Accutrac Pro so if using the ASL would be a good way, or a better way, I am fine with that. I just hate running a power cord, tv, receiver, hardware, cables, etc. up to the roof. The less I would have to carry I think the better. I just wasn't sure it the ASL was for use with either the SWM LNB or both the LNB and the SWM8.
