  • directv SWM setup question

If some one could HELP please, I have had directv install a SAT in my home recently, they used the SWM8 because I only had one cable and I got the
HD DVR. my question is I want to use my SAT with my HD DVR box for camping, what type dish do I need and do I have to use the SWM switch
or do I just hook the single cable straight from the dish to the box.

You could get a 5LNB dish and just use two cables from it (if you want to have the ability to record two channels at once; one otherwise) to the TiVo.

Thank's for the response, What is the differance between a 3LNB and 5LNB My basic hookup will be one TV and i'm not concerned about the DVR but
I would like HD for games. So my Basic hookup would be one cable from
dish (3LNB or 5LNB) to power supply from power supply to TV. the reason I
was asking about the 3LNB is I think I can get one cheaper. as you
can see i'm new with this system, I had cable TV until now.

Basically, the 5LNB gets access to two more satellites (the 110 and the 119) than the 3LNB. Now, in most cases, you don't need anything from those satellites, but if you want an unusual international programming package, you should check to see if you'd receive it on one of those satellites.
