  • Half Home DVR

We just had DirecTV add the whole home DVR feature, and that included a tech coming to the house and putting our 4 dvr's on a SWM.

While everything is working, it would be better for us if instead of all 4 dvrs sharing to each other, if 2 would only see each other, and the other 2 would only see each other.

I would prefer not to see all the junk tv the kids are choosing to record on the dvr's I regularly use.

Any thoughts on a wiring solution?

If you have a SWM switch (as opposed to a SWM dish), just connect each set of DVRs to one of the SWM outputs (SWM1/SWM2) and use a bandstop filter on one of the SWM ports.

Will the dvr's behind the bandstop filter still be able to reach the internet for video on demand or to call home to directv (if they even do that)?

That depends where the internet is connected. If you connect it on one leg after the band stop filter, then, yes, that side will be able to see the internet, but the other won't.
        Been here a long time . . .
