  • Meter needed for 5 LNB SWM dish alignment?

    Howdy,

I have installed round and oval dishes in the past. I used the on-screen signal meter for alignment. Is this a practical method for aligning a 5 LNB SWM dish or should a signal meter be used? Is it a lot more difficult to get a strong signal on all 5 satellites?

Also, I live in the Orange County CA area - is a 5 LNB dish needed or would a 3 LNB dish suffice?

    Thanks!

The 3LNB is fine where you live, but you are going to want a meter. It is very difficult to peak the dish without a meter.

      Can you recommend a meter?

The most popular is the BirdDog. Also DIRECTV has a great meter called the AIM, but I'm not sure if it's easily purchased online. We don't stock meters; sorry.

I would really like to buy the HR34 and SWM dish from Weaknees, but do not want to spend $500 for a meter. Am I stuck calling DirecTV for an install? Any ideas?

If you find a local installer, you can usually just pay them straight out to install a new dish . . . or aim one that you install.
            Been here a long time . . .
