Can I use a over-the-air antenna powered pre-amp (signal booster) with the swm8 multi-switch? If so where would I insert the power unit for the amp in the wiring diagram?

So long as you are not also using any multi-room viewing or networking through the SWM, then yes. You would install the amp before you send the signal into the off-air port of the SWM.
