  • Old upgrade in new unit?

I have a DirecTivo Phillips 704 that the tuner card in died. I purchased an identical replacement from Weaknees (Thank you!!). In the old unit I had added an upgrade kit. Is is possible to simply move the upgrade HDD to the new unit without reformatting or do I need to format and re-bless the drive first?

You can move all drives from one 704 to the other, but you have to choose 'clear and delete everything' in the new unit after the move. If you don't want to lose your programming, you'd need this service:

    DIRECTV TiVo Tuner Repair

Actually I only want to move the upgrade drive (or B drive) to the new unit as the new unit has been up and running for some time. Will I lose programming off of the new units main drive if I do this?

You can't move just one drive. It won't be recognized. Even if you could, you'd lose everything on it. Sorry....when you install a second drive in a TiVo, the two drives become a married pair, and if you separate them, all programming on the second drive is lost.
