  • Switching back to original drive

Years ago I upgraded my series one Tivo. Just recently my Tivo crashed (screen says it has encountered a serious problem - wait three hours and, if the message still appears, call Tivo). I wanted to see if the problem was my hard drive, so I put my original drive back and booted. I don't get any Tivo screens with that old drive. Does Tivo have a BIOS like a PC that tells it what size, # of cylinders, etc is installed? Did I miss any steps when I went back to my original drive, or should I be able to just unplug the bigger one and plug in the original?

The green screen means that you have a bad drive. If you have only one drive in your TiVO, then you should be able to pull out the new and install the old and it should boot, presuming (a) you did the install right, and (b) your old drive still works. If you have no signs of life with the old drive, check your internal cables carefully.
