  • How do I set up a new drive

I currently have a Humax DRT400, recently during playback the system froze up (happened to be at 2 am when the update was being downloaded). I have power cycled, tried the kickstart and all other suggestions by both TIVO and Humax. I have decided that since it had a small drive anyway I would upgrade it with a drive I had from a computer I upgraded (don't need the IDE drives as the new system uses SCSI) I need to know how to set up the drive for use on the TIVO. I have read that I cannot do this on a XP machine. I don't have any other at this time but I can set up a second boot for an alt OS.

What OS is suggested and how do I acquire it.

What documents and utilities do I need to set up the drive for use.

Is it possible to recover any of the recorded programs from the old drive?

You've got a couple of problems - XP, and no TiVo image. Without a working image, you can't prepare a new drive.

We have replacement drives for that unit, fully formatted, ready to go, here:

I appreciate the link, the problem is that I really don't want to buy a drive when I have so many sitting doing nothing. Is there no way to get a image? As for XP I can set up a alt boot to set up the drive and such, which OS is the best for the job, and where is the best source for it?
