I am going to add a second drive to my Series 2 Tivo. It would seem this is the simplest thing to do. However I dont have any FAT32 drives anywhere. Creating one is going to be a big pain in the anus. Is it really necessary to back up and restore the files onto the new drive? Can I just add the drive following the instructions provided for this task? I guess Im looking to skip two entire sections of the directions.

The only reason to back up is so that you have something to fall back on if the upgrade goes awry...and to have it in case a drive fails down the road. If you don't care about either of those possibilities, then throw caution to the wind and go for it without one. -
That was a fast response! Thank you. I guess my only question now is, if things do go awry will the os on my 2 other tivos that i bought at the same time be compatable with the one im modifying?Comment
