sense key:medium error, Buffer i/o error on original tivo hard drive series 3

Is there any way to fix this? I think this is the reason why I'm not getting the full capacity of my 1TB hard drive. I bought the highly recommended wd drive but it still won't get full capacity. I figure the errors I just describe is the cause. Can someone offer advise on how to fix this problem. Thanks.

I have 2 series 3 tivos. I am upgrading both. The 1st drive has errors. Can I use the 2nd drive that has no errors as the primary source to upgrade both series 3 tivos.
